Cedar Realty Trust Partners with the Jackie Robinson Foundation

On Wednesday, January 8, Cedar Realty Trust presented awards to local Washington DC students. Cedar Realty Trust provided a grant to the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) to support six students from Ward 7 in Washington, DC, who began college this fall as part of the class of 2023. This grant supports one JRF Cedar Realty Trust Scholar, who is participating in the Foundation’s core scholarship program and provides four-year financial scholarships, as well as a comprehensive set of services delivered through its celebrated “42 Strategies for Success Curriculum.”

In addition to the JRF Cedar Realty Trust Scholar, five local students received one-year scholarships to participate in JRF’s newest initiative, its Impact program. The Impact program delivers aspects of the JRF’s established curriculum to an expanded audience of students from across the country in a new online platform that dispenses substantive modules on strategies for success in college, hosted by JRF Scholars, education experts and other professionals and special guests.

This partnership is not just between Cedar Realty Trust, Inc. and the Jackie Robinson Foundation, but it’s also a partnership with the people of hashtag#Ward7.

Commercial Property Executive – Grocery-Anchored Shopping Centers: A Safety Net in Unpredictable Times

#Grocery anchored #retail is still proving to be viable. Our CEO, Bruce Schanzer spoke with Commercial Property Executive on the resiliency of grocery-anchored shopping centers perform against malls and big-box centers.

Grocery anchored shopping is a distinct asset type within retail. They’re anchored by groceries where people continue to the grocery store regularly since they are always feeding themselves. Although there is a rise of #ecommerce in the soft goods category, there isn’t the same level of adoption for produce. Our properties which are primarily grocery-anchored shopping centers continue to perform strongly with high customer traffic, full parking lots, and overall strong tenant performance.

Shopping Centers Today Article – Mentors, sponsors key to C-suite

Our COO, Robin McBride Zeigler, has always been a strong proponent of mentorship and sponsors. Earlier this week, she spoke on ICSC‘s panel “What We Learned Along the Way to the C-Suite” where she covered how young professionals can develop skills and expand their knowledge.

“Mentors give advice and make time to discuss issues one-on-one, while sponsors actually help the aspirant get from point A to point B — recommending them for job openings and vouching for them through a professional network. Young executives can turn mentors into sponsors by showing a willingness to learn, she suggests. Having specific questions and concerns and not wasting a mentor’s time helps. Have your ‘ask’ ready before you are having that coffee. Be respectful of their time.”
